The mission, designated LVM3-M5, will place the country’s heaviest communication satellite into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) from Indian soil.
Weighing about 4,400 kilograms, CMS-03 will be the fifth operational satellite in its series and the largest communication payload launched by ISRO. The multi-band satellite is designed to provide enhanced communication services across the Indian subcontinent and adjoining oceanic regions.
According to ISRO, the fully assembled LVM3 vehicle, integrated with the satellite, was moved to the launch pad on October 26 for final checks and pre-launch operations.
The LVM3 rocket, ISRO’s most powerful launch vehicle, previously carried the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, which made history by successfully landing near the lunar south pole — a first for any nation.
Future Missions: Chandrayaan, Venus, & beyond
Meanwhile, preparations for India’s first human spaceflight, the Gaganyaan project, are also underway. Following Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s successful participation in NASA’s Axiom-4 mission, ISRO is finalizing plans to send a three-member crew into a 400-kilometer orbit for a three-day mission, culminating in a splashdown in Indian waters.
With CMS-03 ready for launch and several ambitious projects on the horizon, ISRO continues to cement its reputation as one of the world’s most innovative and determined space agencies.
