India on moon: ISRO shares image of Chandrayaan's landing site; confirms establishment of communication

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed that a communication link has been established between the Chandrayaan-3 Lander and MOX-ISTRAC, Bengaluru following India's lunar satellite's soft landing on Wednesday.

The Space Agency took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the same and also shared a few images.



In the latest update, ISRO shared the first image of a portion of Chandrayaan-3's landing site.

"The image captured by the Landing Imager Camera after the landing. It shows a portion of Chandrayaan-3's landing site. Seen also is a leg and its accompanying shadow," it posted on X.

Fulfilling the dream of 140 crore Indians, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on Wednesday touched down on the surface of the Moon after its 41-day odyssey. Chandrayaan-3 is the most ambitious project of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) so far.

With this landing, India has scripted a history and joined the ranks of the United States, China, and the former Soviet Union (now Russia) as the fourth nation to master the technology of soft lunar landing.

Following an unsuccessful Indian lunar mission in 2019, this latest endeavor comes merely days after Russia's first Moon mission in nearly half a century tragically ended in a crash within the same lunar region.
