IICT develops new technology to manufacture hydrazine hydrate
HYDERABAD: CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology here has developed a technology to manufacture "hydrazine hydrate" which is largely used in agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and for water treatment.

The technology was demonstrated on pilot scale to M/s Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd, Vadodara ( GACL), recently.

"CSIR-IICT and GACL can proudly claim this technology as a 'Make in India' initiative. We have also signed an agreement with GACL for development of hydrazine hydrate technology," Director, CSIR-IICT, Dr M Lakshmi Kantam said.

Under the agreement, CSIR-IICT has developed a bench scale process for manufacturing hydrazine hydrate and also successfully demonstrated on pilot scale at GACL.

GACL is keen and will shortly establish a commercial plant initially 8000 TPA of 80 per cent hydrazine hydrate based on IICT technology and detailed designs, she said.

The process developed by CSIR-IICT is based on hydrogen peroxide route, which is environmentally benign. This is an example of Make in India, she added.
