Hyderabad: Space-tech startups in Hyderabad have called for a dedicated Space City and specialised infrastructure as the Telangana government looks to make space technology its next growth pillar and position Hyderabad among the world’s top five space-tech hubs.

The call came after D. Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister, met representatives of 14 space-tech companies on Saturday.

Speaking to ET after the meeting, Chiranjeevi Phanindra, founder and CEO of Cosmoserve Space, said Hyderabad already had the ingredients to become India’s space hub but needed a push from the government.

“A little push from the government will enhance the growth in this sector,” he said, pointing to a strong space policy, common testing facilities and a dedicated space park as key requirements.

He added that the government said the proposals were under consideration and that inputs from the startups would be used to shape its plans.

The startups at the meeting spanned the breadth of the space-tech ecosystem, including Skyroot Aerospace, Dhruva Space, Constelli, TakeMe2Space, Cosmoserve Space, Abyom SpaceTech & Defence and Sanyark Space, among others.

“These startups are building rockets, satellites, space debris removal, orbital infrastructure and other frontier technologies that represent the next generation of advanced engineering and innovation from Hyderabad. As we work towards our trillion-dollar economy ambition, our focus is now on bringing these strengths together to accelerate Hyderabad’s space-tech growth and build one of Asia’s leading deep-tech hubs,” the IT minister said.
