Hyderabad scientist elected as fellow of INSA
HYDERABAD: The Indian National Science Academy ( INSA), apex body of Indian scientists, has elected Chief Scientist of CSIR-IICT, Srivari Chandrasekhar, as a fellow from the year 2015.

The recognition has been accorded for his contribution in the area of organic chemistry for the last two decades, according to a statement from CSIR-IICT (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology).

Chandrasekhar has made significant contribution in synthesising complex and scarcely available natural products in laboratory using easily available chemicals. His latest contribution is to develop a technology for manufacturing misoprostal, an important drug in treatment of ulcers, it said.

"Dr Chandrasekhar has also prepared some of the very important drug molecules such as Galantamine for Alzeimer's disease, Sertraline for treatment of depression and marine natural products like Eribulin, which are scarce to get from nature, with potent anticancer activity," it added.
