Find out why NASA has tweeted about Guru Purnima
This festival is traditionally celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists, to pay their respects to their teachers and express their gratitude.

The day is marked on the full-moon day of the Hindu month Ashadha, which falls in between June-July. In some parts of India, it is also called Ved Vyas pooja (after saint Vyas).
While social media in India is full of people talking about the significance of Guru Purnima, there is also an unlikely entrant in this list of people tweeting about it. This year, NASA Moon, NASA's official account about Earth's moon, has tweeted about it, thereby, creating more awareness among the people about Guru Purnima and adding up to the celebrations.
Full moon this weekend - called Guru Purnima, Hay Moon, Mead Moon, Ripe Corn Moon, Buck Moon, or our favorite, ?? THUNDER MOON ?? pic.twitter.com/XLufAdoDEQ

The Twitter handle has described the many names given to the full moon that will be spotted today - Hay Moon, Mead Moon, Ripe Corn Moon and Thunder Moon - and Guru Purnima is one of the names given.
Thankyou for recognising Guru Purnima, or Teacher's Day as per vedic practices. Wish you all a blessed Guru (Teacher) Purnima (Full moon).

The tweet also carried a picture of the full moon and has been 'retweeted' over 1,000 times. Meanwhile, many Indians have applauded NASA for acknowledging Guru Purnima.
