Yumnam Khemchand Singh sworn in as Manipur CM as President’s Rule ends

Senior BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur on Wednesday after the Centre revoked President’s Rule, ending a year of central administration in the violence-hit state. Governor Ajay Bhalla administered the oath at the Lok Bhavan in Imphal.Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, giving representation to the Kuki-Zo community, while Losii Dikho took oath as Deputy CM, representing the Naga community. President’s Rule had been imposed in February 2025 following the resignation of former chief minister N Biren Singh, amid criticism over the handling of ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kukis that erupted in May 2023.
