HYDERABAD: In what is being construed a political self-goal, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appears to have invited trouble upon himself with his comments on people who have disclosed unaccounted income under the Income Declaration Scheme (IDS) 2016.

A day after Naidu attempted to imply it was Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy who declared Rs 10,000 crore under IDS 2016, Reddy demanded the Union government to make the entire list of IDS 2016 public in the "larger interest of probity in public life."

The Opposition leader, in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Naidu was privy to income declaration information of IDS 2016 since the person declared Rs 10,000 crore was benami. Further, Reddy reiterated his demand for a thorough enquiry into the corruption charges on Naidu, citing a book he submitted to the PM detailing Rs 1.5 lakh core of corruption charges against the CM and the report of NCAER, which ranked Andhra the most corrupt state.

Political analyst Prof K Nageshwar said, "The feud going on between Naidu and Jagan is essentially a political rhetoric that does not contribute in any way to elimination of black money."

TROUBLE BREWING

Citing the tweets of the CBDT that no break-up of the declaration on the basis of trades, cities or states was released, Reddy sought to know how Naidu could get region and person-specific numbers under IDS 2016.

Naidu, an ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the Centre, has on at least two occasions said in "unequivocal terms that Rs 13,000 crore was declared together in Andhra and Telangana states and of this, an amount of Rs 10,000 crore was declared by an individual," said Reddy in his letter.

On Wednesday, Naidu had urged the PM to curb large cash transactions by individuals and make mandatory such transactions through banks, apart from banning high denomination currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
