Arjun Singh once gain tried to reach out to the party high command and said that both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi had filled the vacuum created after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.
He was speaking at a function organised by the UP Congress Committee in the state capital to mark the 17th death anniversary of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on Wednesday.
Mr Singh has been in the eye of storm recently over his remarks against the Congress high command. He had later tried to reach out to the Gandhi family by stating his ���life-long��� commitment towards the Gandhis, however his efforts to reach out the Gandhis reportedly did not succeed.
On Wednesday he once gain tried to appease the high command by saying that ���Sonia and Rahul Gandhi had fulfiled the task left unfinished by Rajiv Gandhi���.
Mr Singh said that Rajiv Gandhi was a great leader committed to serve the nation and it showed from the fact that Rajiv Gandhi had pardoned the assassins of his mother Indira Gandhi.
On the eve of the fourth anniversary of the UPA government at the centre, he said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh���s government and the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had delivered on all the promises made in the 2004 election manifesto.
He said that one of the biggest achievements of the government has been to provide reservations to OBCs in central institutes of higher education. He said that the reservations extended to the OBCs also ensured that other students did not suffer due to the newly introduced quota.
