The Azamgarh LS bypoll, necessitated after SP chief Akhilesh Yadav vacated the seat and took up membership of the UP legislative assembly, is witnessing a three-cornered fight between the SP, BSP and the BJP. SP has fielded Akhilesh's cousin Dharmendra Yadav who is up against BSP's Shah Alam - a two time MLA from the area and a popular face and BJP's actor singer candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirahua' who had contested from the seat in 2019 too but lost to Akhilesh. Hectic campaigning has begun before the vote is cast on Thursday.
"The entire world is welcoming the scheme. But driven by the ill-intention of meddling with the future of the youth, the opposition is misleading them," Yogi said at a public address in Chakrapanpur in Azamgarh, adding that announcements have already been made about reserving seats for them in CAPF and Assam Rifles and states giving them priority in police and other jobs.
