Yogi has been a known face of Hindutva in the eastern UP region and has been in the thick of controversy on several occasions in the past. Yogi, who was busy in a meeting when contacted, is expected to rake up issues close to the Hindutva agenda.
On top of his agenda has been the issue of illegal cow slaughter, illegal infiltration by Bangladeshi immigrants and forced conversion.
The BJP recently was in the midst of a controversy following their alleged act of fanning the issue of 'Love jihad' during the two-day state working committee meeting.
While the BJP avoided making a mention of 'Love jihad' in the political resolution, the issue dominated the state meeting.
'Love jihad' reportedly came up for discussion during office-bearers' meeting a day before the working committee meeting at Vrindavan.
Besides Yogi Adityanath, the BJP's central election committee had decided the names of former CM and erstwhile Hindutva mascot Kalyan Singh and state BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpayi for campaigning.
But with Kalyan appointed as Rajasthan governor, he is automatically out of the star campaigners' list.
