NEW DELHI: Yatra.com said on Friday it has partnered with the Delhi and Gurugram Administration to provide free bus services for migrant workers. Starting May 22, the bus services will ply to multiple places in Uttar Pradesh, amidst the nationwide lockdown triggered by the pandemic.

Yatra.com is currently providing 150 buses, which will operate from different transit points in Delhi and Gurugram to places in Uttar Pradesh over the next few days. Through this service, Delhi and Gurugram local authorities aim to ferry over 3,500 migrant workers. This initiative of Yatra.com is also supported by the Hindu College Old Students Association and the Members of the Delhi chapter of the YPO, the company said in a statement.

Dhruv Shringi, co-founder and CEO, Yatra.com, said the plight of the migrants workers wanting to go back home has been very disconcerting and the company has been trying to figure out how best it can help them reach their homes.

"For this, we have provided the Delhi and Gurugram Administration with upto 150 buses to transport migrant laborers to their home town. This is a complex problem of immense magnitude which despite their best efforts the local administrations cannot solve on their own. Therefore as responsible corporate citizens we all need to do what we can to support the local authorities and our fellow citizens in this difficult hour,” he added.
