New Delhi: Attorney General KK Venugopal on Friday clarified that he had written in his personal capacity to the four senior-most judges of the top court seeking to have an external person in the panel to deal with the sexual harassment charges against CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

He also denied quitting the post over the issue. The AG is a political appointee and changes with a change in government.

He will therefore continue as AG until the next government makes another appointment. The top court’s in-house panel, comprising three sitting judges, has given a clean chit to the CJI and this hasn’t gone down well with the public or activists demanding to know whether due process was only for ordinary citizens.
