The work related to agriculture and farmer welfare is ongoing with rural development projects progressing rapidly, said the new agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after being assigned the portofolio, adding that significant work has been done over the past 10 years.

Chouhan is also the minister for rural development.

He added that the government's priority is farmer welfare which is evident from the fact that his first decision was to release funds for PM Kisan, a central scheme for boosting farmers’ income.

He added that the work will remain consistent despite the new minister.

The minister also met with various officials of the two ministries including Manoj Ahuja, secretary for agriculture and Shailesh Singh, secretary, rural development.
