Won't name any candidate for prime ministerial post: Congress
GUWAHATI: Congress today said it will not declare any names for the party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

"We've never had a tradition of declaring a candidate for the post of prime minister before the election. We do not need any name for the PM's post," All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary, Avinash Pande, told a press conference here.

Asked specifically whether the party would refrain from announcing a name this time as well, Pande said, "When I said we never did (declare names), it means for this time also."

Pande also said Congress was "not bothered" by the BJP's announcement of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate.

Meanwhile, another senior AICC official, who did not wish to be named, said, "People know about the prime ministerial candidate of our party. We do not need to name him."
