NEW DELHI: CPM general secretary Prakash Karat has said his party would go to any length to keep Congress out of power. He said his party won't back Congress even to keep BJP out of power.
"There is large space for parties opposed to Congress and BJP," he told a private television channel in an interview. CPM had offered "outside support" to United Progressive Alliance in 2004, until it withdrew support to the coalition over the issue of the India-US nuclear deal in 2008.
Though Left parties, led by CPM, have often advocated a policy of equidistance from Congress and BJP, it has never been averse to the idea of backing Congress to keep BJP out of power.
