Won't allow NRC in West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vowed to block the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state, alleging a conspiracy under the guise of electoral roll revision. Banerjee claimed genuine voters are being harassed and their name...

Banerjee reasserted that the names of genuine voters must not be deleted and they should not be harassed in the name of electoral roll revision by the Election Commission of India. "The names of genuine voters must not be deleted and they should not be harassed in the name of electoral rolls revision," Banerjee said. She alerted the district magistrates to be alert and expressed grievances that she was not aware about the BLO training by the ECI.
Banerjee was convening an administrative meeting in Birbhum district. "The ECI is playing the huge game of NRC with the central government. They (BLOs) will go thrice and if they don't find anyone, then the names will be deleted. There is a conspiracy going on in the name of SIR," Banerjee alleged. "We won't tolerate this in Bengal. The double-engine government is behind this conspiracy."
"No one will have their names in voter list, despite having Aadhaar, EPICs and PAN Card... The list is decided from Gujarat. I love Gujaratis but some agency in Gujarat is working as BJP's agency," she further alleged.
Banerjee said that she was not aware that 1,000 BLOs went to New Delhi to the ECI for training. "Why were we not aware of that training? The chief secretary should have been informed," she told the DMs. West Bengal Chief Electoral Office is training BLOs from various parts of the state from July 24-28. Ahead of this, BLOs were trained in New Delhi. "Please inform the chief secretary and us. You are making decisions on your own," Banerjee told the DMs during the administrative meeting.
