Women should be in forefront of anti-corruption protest: Kiran Bedi

Team Anna member Kiran Bedi today said that women should step forward and be in the forefront of the anti-corruption campaign.

Nashik: Former IPS officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi today said that women should step forward and be in the forefront of the anti-corruption campaign.

Bedi delivered a lecture on `Strengthening of Women' at Dadasaheb Gaikwad Hall here to mark the first anniversary of Marathi daily `Divya Marathi'.

Saying that women have inherent strength but our culture pushed them to the background, Bedi questioned the popular Karva Chauth ritual, where women keep a fast for the husbands' health and well-being. "Why husbands do not keep a fast for women?" she asked.

Times were changing, and women should empower their daughters, she said.

Talking about Lokpal agitation, Bedi said that Anna Hazare was invited to various states in the country to lead the local anti-corruption agitations, but each region should produce its own equivalent of Hazare.
