With months left in job, Delhi police chief B S Bassi gets two Twitter handles

NEW DELHI: Weeks before his retirement, Delhi Police commissioner B S Bassi has joined Twitter. However, confirming that his stint is going to be short-lived, the department has created two different hand les for him. While one handle is in the name of @BhimBassi, the other is @CPDelhi.

Interestingly, sources said that Bassi does not operate any of the two handle as of now and has asked a DCP to handle them for him. Bassi may be appointed at Chief Information commissioner by December 15 and get his joining by March 1. He is due to retire by February 28.

The police control room too has created a handle in the name of @DelhiPolice. All the joint CP and DCPs have also been asked to have their social networking handles on similar lines within the next one week.

Delhi Police's performance on the micro blogging site has not been impressive. Former top cop Neeraj Kumar had also started a Twitter handle but it was not continued later by Bassi who chose to have a different handle at the end of his tenure.

However, Bassi said that the initiative was taken to capture the sentiment and mood of the society and gather information on what our citizens feel about contemporary issues affecting them. These platforms will also serve as a medium to provide real time advisories, alerts and general information to the public at large.
