GUWAHATI: With an eye on election in Meghalaya in 2018, BJP racked up the issue of minority community of Meghalaya being targeted in Bangladesh.

The saffron party attacked the Congress government in the state and said Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is busy pleasing his political masters in New Delhi. BJP also stated that the Congress-led government “exhibited a moral drift”.

BJP spokesperson Basu Chakraborty said: “Congress government in the state is under the grip of internal fight and this has effected the development work.” The saffron party alleged that the state government has adopted no policy to counter illegal influx. Chakraborty also said there is fear among the local people that they will be swamped by foreigners.

BJP expressed concern on the atrocities committed on minorities in Bangladesh. He said the Dhaka district administration has reportedly issued an eviction notice to over 700 Khasi families living at Nahar Punji of Srimangal Upazila in Moulavi Bazar. BJP has stated that it will take up the matter with the central government.
