With 50% increase, it's been a good year for wetlands in India

Amid the gloom and doom of the pandemic, the number of protected wetlands in India under the Ramsar Convention increased by 50% in one year, taking the number of such sites of international importance from 27 in 2019 to 41 this year, reported Times of India.

It is named after the Iranian city of Ramsar, on the Caspian Sea, where the treaty was signed on February 2, 1971.
