Bengaluru: Karnataka reported 36 Covid-19 positive cases in addition to one death on Thursday, causing worry among healthcare administrators.

The total fatality in the state is now at 13 and the number of cases at 315.

Majority of the cases were reported from Belagavi (17), followed by Vijayapura (7) and Bengaluru Urban (5). Education minister S Suresh Kumar, who is also the spokesperson for Covid-19, said that the cases reported in Belagavi are from two families and the district authorities have taken measures to seal off the area and contain the spread of the disease.

“All 17 cases are linked to their family members with travel history to Delhi,” Kumar said. He said that of the total cases reported so far, 49 were linked to the pharmaceutical company in Nanjangud and 91 cases are those with travel history to Delhi and their primary and secondary contacts.

The government is yet to trace the source of the virus among employees of the pharmaceutical company.

“We have contacted the foreign nationals who had visited the pharma company premises in the last couple of months and are taking reports of their health condition,” the minister said.
