Wipro to demolish compound wall built on govt land

Realising that its compound wall was built on a government land, Wipro has decided to demolish it.

BANGALORE: IT major Wipro on Tuesday initiated steps to demolish the compound of its guest house after the Joint Legislature Committee brought it to its notice that the company had encroached 23 'guntas' (around half-acre) of government land, the Committee's Chairman A T Ramaswamy said.

During a visit to Kempapura village on an inspection to unearth illegal encroachments,the Committee found that Wipro had encroached the land adjacent to its guest house built on an eight acre plot of land, the Chairman said.

Ramaswamy, MLA, here said that on being informed, Wipro launched works to demolish the compound to clear the encroachment. The encroached land was part of the Bellandur water body, which has been grabbed by several persons, Ramaswamy said.

Land valued at Rs 260 crore has been encroached in Miller Tank (water body), Bellandur Tank, Pottery Town, Kempapura and Kaudenahally, he said after a visit by the Committee, which recommended to the government to clear the encroachments.

The Committee, set up to unearth illegal encroachments, has identified more than 18,000 acres of land which had fallen into the hands of land sharks in and around the city.
