Winter session extended by three days: Bansal tells Lok Sabha

Winter session which was scheduled to end tomorrow, has been extended by three days from December 27 to discuss Lokpal Bill and other legislations.

NEW DELHI: The winter session of Parliament, which was scheduled to end tomorrow, has been extended by three days from December 27 to discuss Lokpal Bill and other legislations.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said this in the Lok Sabha while tabling the 33rd report of the Business Advisory Committee.

The Lokpal bill is expected to be introduced in the Lok Sabha tomorrow and would be taken up for discussion when Parliament reconvenes December 27 after a four-day Christmas break.

Parliament is also expected to discuss the Whistleblowers Bill and the Judicial Accountability Bill during the extended session.

Opposition parties had sought discussion on the three key legislations that are part of the government's strategy to tackle corruption.

The government has been racing against time to firm up the anti-graft Bill in view of the looming threat of Anna Hazare to go on hunger strike from December 27 if Parliament fails to pass a strong Lokpal Bill.
