Following his failure to secure bail from the Supreme Court in the Delhi excise policy case, AAP's Manish Sisodia today resigned as Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister.

Sisodia was in charge of 18 departments of the AAP government. His portfolios will be divided between ministers Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar Anand, sources said.

AAP minister Satyendar Jain, already in jail on corruption charges, also tendered his resignation along with Sisodia.

While resigning, Sisodia said he wanted to "stay away till the charges are proven false". There could be more cases filed against him but the charges are false, his resignation letter said.

Sisodia's letter read: "These allegations are nothing more than a conspiracy of cowards and weak people... Their target is not me, their target is Arvind Kejriwal."
