Will not fill up my SIR form till all of Bengal does, says Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she will not fill the enumeration form (EF) as part of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR), unless the entire population of the state completes the form-filling process. "I will not fill the forms until every person in West Bengal finishes filling up their forms," she said in a social media post.

"On Wednesday, a block-level officer (BLO) had come to our neighbourhood and to my office-cum residence and enquired about the total number of voters at my residence and gave the enumeration forms," Banerjee said. However, the CM said she did not "personally" receive the forms from the BLO as reported by the media. A day after the BLO visited the CM's official residence, Banerjee took to social media to clarify that though she received the enumeration form, she did not receive it in person and claimed that such reports were "untrue and misleading".

The Trinamool Congress has been opposing the SIR and has organised a mega rally early this week against SIR.


Meanwhile,a three-member ECI team, led by Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, SB Joshi, principal secretary, ECI, Abhinav Agarwal, along with WB-CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal, additional CEO, West Bengal, Dibyendu Das, DEO of Alipurduar, EROs, AEROs, and other key district officials reviewed the progress of the SIR. The DEC and WB-CEO directed AEROs and EROs to ensure that no genuine voter is excluded from the rolls and no ineligible voter is included.

A division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Thursday has sought an affidavit from the Election Commission of India stating its position on a PIL that has questioned why the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls is being conducted.
