Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has said his government would examine demands for increasing reservations for Vokkaligas, within the framework of the law and Constitution, a day after the community's leaders made a serious pitch for a larger quota in government jobs and education institutions. They have sought the quota to be raised to 12% from 4%.

Referring to demands from Vokkaliga community heads, including ministers from BJP, the CM said in Mysuru on Monday that he was yet to receive a copy of the memorandum. There were expectations from all communities for an increase in reservations, Bommai said without taking the name of any community. "I am a well-wisher of all communities." The state's Permanent Backward Class Commission was seized of the subject, he said.
