Will fight for farmers despite privilege motion, FIR talk: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi declared on Thursday that he would continue to speak up for farmers regardless of any legal or parliamentary action against him, after reports surfaced that a privilege motion could be considered over his recent remarks in the House.

“Whether an FIR is filed, a case is registered, or a Privilege motion is brought — I will fight for the farmers. Any trade deal that snatches away farmers' livelihood or weakens the country's food security is anti-farmer. We will not allow the anti-farmer Modi government to compromise on the interests of the food providers,” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said in a video message on X.

The Congress leader's statement came amid speculation that the Centre was weighing a privilege motion following allegations he raised during the Budget Session of Parliament.

In his speech, Gandhi levelled serious charges against PM Modi and other ministers in connection with the notorious Epstein files, and attacked the recently concluded India-US trade deal.

However, government sources told ANI that there are no plans at present to move a privilege motion against the Congress leader.

The clarification came even as BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said he had submitted a notice seeking a 'substantive motion' against Gandhi. A substantive motion is a formal, standalone proposal placed before the House to seek its approval on a specific matter.

"No privilege motion notice. I have given a substantive motion notice where in I have mentioned how he visits Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia with Soros Foundation, Ford Foundation and USAID, and colludes with anti-India forces," Dubey said.

Gandhi's remarks have fed into a wider Opposition push against the interim trade agreement with Washington.

Opposition MPs announced a protest outside Makar Dwar in Parliament, describing certain provisions of the pact as “anti-people” and expressing solidarity with farmers who have called for an All India bandh.

Congress MP Manish Tewari further moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, seeking suspension of listed business to discuss what he termed serious concerns arising from the India–US joint statement and a recent White House executive order.
