Will discuss views on bilateral & global issues: PM Modi on his informal meet with Xi

A day before his informal summit meeting with Chines President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said he will exchange views on a range of issues of bilateral and global importance during the Wuhan Summit.

Prime Minister Modi is travelling to Wuhan, China on April 27-28 for an Informal Summit meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

"President Xi and I will exchange views on a range of issues of bilateral and global importance. We will discuss our respective visions and priorities for national development, particularly in the context of current and future international situation," Modi said on Twitter.


"We will also review the developments in India-China relations from a strategic and long-term perspective," Modi said.

Modi's visit to China is significant as both the countries are trying to bury the hatchets over last year's Dokalam standoff and move ahead to build strong bilateral ties.

This is the first time that the Chinese President will be personally hosting the prime minister for the entire duration of the visit.

In 2015, when Modi traveled to China, the bureaucracy insisted that he be hosted by premier Li Keqiang. Xi had still not gained full control but ensured he flew down to Xian to meet Modi. In that way, the Wuhan Summit will a great leap forward from the time all that an Indian PM got was a ceremonial meeting at the Great Hall of the People.
