Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assured that in the coming days state government will continue its unrelenting efforts to empower the police forces to negotiate with the modern day crimes and at the same time building a cordial relationship with all sections of the people.

Sonowal dedicated the new building of Biswanath Chariali Police Station to the service of the people at a function held at Biswanath today.

It may be noted that the police station has been built under MOITRI (Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image) Scheme involving a financial outlay of Rs. 1.88 crores.

Sonowal said that the MOITRI scheme was a fall out of the All India DGP & IPG Conference held at Guwahati in the year 2015, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for smart police for the protection of lives of properties of all sections of the people. Consequently, the present BJP led state government after coming to power in 2016 envisaged the scheme namely MOITRI and in first phase 73 police stations were earmarked for upgradation and modernization.

Sonowal said that he is happy to inaugurate the new building of Biswanath Charilia Police Station which is incidentally the 49th Police Station to have been upgraded and modernized under MOITRI Scheme.

He also said that in the changing face of commission of crimes, the police forces along with the police stations have to go through the modernization process. Therefore, under mission MOITRI efforts were taken to modernize the police stations to equip the police forces to combat with the modern day crimes.
