Widespread rains lash Punjab, Haryana
CHANDIGARH: Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh received widespread showers, plummeting the minimum temperature in the region today by upto to two degrees Celsius below normal.

The minimum temperature fell sharply in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with the mercury oscillating between two degrees Celsius above normal to two notches below normal, the MeT office here said.

While Chandigarh was drenched by 20.2 mm of rainfall, Karnal received 3.4 mm of rains.

Among other places, Bhiwani had 2.4 mm of rainfall followed by 1.7 mm at Ambala, and 0.3 mm at Amritsar.

Patiala, Ludhiana and Hisar also received scattered rainfall.

Amritsar settled at a low of 9.3 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, Hisar had a low of 9.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

Among other places, Karnal had a low of 10.2 degrees Celsius followed by 10.3 degrees Celsius at Narnual, 10.6 degrees Celsius at Patiyala, one notch above normal, 11.6 degrees Celsius at Bhiwani.

While Ambala had a low of 12.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, the minimum at Chandigarh was 12.4 degrees Celsius, also two notches above normal.

The MeT forecast possibility of thundershowers and rains a few places in the region during the next 24 hours.
