Why transit- oriented growth won't work for Bengaluru
Bengaluru could follow in the steps of New York, Portland, London or Sao Paulo to build communities around a transit system to decongest the city, the Indian Institute of Science says in a latest study. The Bengaluru Metro corridor and its stations are ideal for transit- oriented development (TOD), according to Ashish Verma from the IISc Department of Civil Engineering. The study, published in the Journal of Transport Geography, looks at how Bengalureans are making housing tenure choices juxtaposed with their commuting preferences, before concluding that TOD is the way forward.
