Congress on Thursday asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keeping silent on the repeated claims of US President Donald Trump that he had forced the India-Pakistan ceasefire by using trade as an instrument of negotiation.

Congress spokesman Jairam Ramesh said Trump had praised "the PMs of India and Pakistan equally and put them on par in every way". "Yet our PM - Donald bhai's great buddy - is completely silent on what the US President is repeatedly saying," he said. "The external affairs minister also continues to maintain complete quiet on what his pal, the US secretary of state, has said in support of the US President's claims and about the 'neutral site' for talks between India and Pakistan. Why this thundering silence?"

Referring to Modi's comments about Operation Sindoor at a rally in Rajasthan, Ramesh said that instead of "filmi dialogues" the PM should answer serious questions that were being asked of him. He demanded to know why the PM was not convening a special session of Parliament and an all-party meeting and why the killers of Pahalgam were still free.
