Why don't they raid Amit Shah: Mamata Banerjee on IT raid in Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary's house

KOLKATA: Reacting to the income tax raid going on in the residence of chief secretary of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee called the actions of central agencies as 'vindictive, unethical and technically improper’. Mentioning the raid at the residence of Delhi chief minister’s principal secretary, she said that the agency should now come down heavily on senior BJP leaders like the party’s president Amit Shah.

"Earlier the Principal Secretary of Arvind Kejriwal was raided and harassed. Now I read Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu has also been raided. Why this vindictive, unethical, technically improper action? Is it only to disturb the federal structure? Why don't they raid Amit Shah and others who are collecting money?" asked Banerjee.

She has termed the actions of IT department as an attack on the federal structure. Significantly, Banerjee's MP and the leader of TMC parliamentary party in Lok Sabha, Sudip Bandyopadhyay has also been summoned by the CBI yesterday in connection with the chit fund scam.

"While corruption needs to be condemned strongly, the raid on Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu by Central agencies devalues the institution of head of the civil service.

The proper procedure should have been to take the state leadership into confidence and removing him from the post prior to any preemptive action, based on information," Banerjee tweeted.
