White House sees 'urgency' to US-India nuclear pact
The White House warned on Wednesday that efforts to ratify a US-India nuclear deal were "getting down to the wire" but that it was optimistic about eventual passage by the US Congress.
"It's getting down to the wire, that's why we have a sense of urgency about it," spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters when asked whether she was hopeful about the controversial pact's prospects in the United States.
Perino said the United States was working with supporters of the controversial agreement in the US Congress and on the international scene.
"We are going to try to work with these communities closely in the next few weeks," she said. "There's still some steps that have to take place before our Congress can even take a vote on it."
Despite the hurdles and the ticking clock, "we remain optimistic," said Perino.
