What's the purpose of pro-law panel: Congress

New Delhi: Congress and some opposition parties have questioned the purpose of an SC-constituted committee. All four members nominated to the committee were 'self-proclaimed supporters' of the very 'black laws' and critics of the concept of public procurement and MSP, they said.

“Each citizen of the country was hopeful when the SC made some observations. But, when we looked at the character, stand and ideology of these four members named in the committee, we find all of them have taken a public stand of siding with the Modi government’s black laws and for their implementation. The question is can you expect justice from a committee comprising four members who are already supporting the black laws? This is gross injustice to India’s farmers,” AICC spokesman Randeep Surjewala said.

NCP leader Sharad Pawar tweeted to welcome the SC stay on farms laws, made no adverse comment on committee members while hoping the panel’s dialogue will be keep in mind farmers’ interests. However, Pawar is learnt to have told some opposition leaders that he felt after the SC decision the agitation was likely to continue. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury asked, “can anyone expect the protesting farmers demanding repeal of agri laws to talk to such a committee?” CPI general secretary D Raja said “SC decision raises many questions”.
