What's next for INDIA after triple blow from 'Paltu Ram', 'Didi' & 'Jugnu'

The INDIA bloc, consisting of various political parties, is facing challenges as key members withdraw their support. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has decided to leave the opposition alliance, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has chosen not to join the grand alliance in Punjab. Additionally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has rejected the Congress party's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' and will contest the Lok Sabha elections independently. This series of events has put the INDIA bloc in a precarious situation, with no resolution in sight.

The unraveling of the INDIA bloc became evident when Nitish Kumar reversed his decision to join the alliance, shortly after being offered the position of convenor. Mamata Banerjee's refusal to participate in the east-west yatra and her denial of permission for Congress' public programs in West Bengal further exacerbated the instability. This has created complications for the alliance in other states like Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Maharashtra.

The first major obstacle for Rahul Gandhi and the alliance's 2024 Yatra will be in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee not only declined the request to join the yatra but also denied permission for several public events, including Rahul Gandhi's scheduled speech in Siliguri. As a result, the itinerary had to be adjusted in West Bengal.


The unstable situation in Bihar and West Bengal has thrown the seat-sharing talks with allies into disarray. While Congress remains optimistic about finalizing pre-poll agreements in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Delhi, negotiations have not progressed smoothly even in states where the allies are part of existing coalitions. The INDIA bloc is now facing a challenging task of regaining stability and unity.
