What Rahul couldn't do in 10 years, Modi govt did in 10 days: Smriti Irani in Amethi

AMETHI, UTTAR PRADESH: Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani upped the ante in Rahul Gandhi's stronghold Amethi, saying the central government has done in 10 days what the Congress vice president could not fulfil in 10 years.

"For 10 years farmers of Amethi demanded a railway rack of fertiliser. I made that promise this month and the first rack arrived at Gauriganj on Monday," Irani said.

Irani, who was on her second visit to the UP city, was unsparing on the Congress MP.

"Rahul Gandhi criticizes PM Modi but he can't even deliver on promises in his own constituency. We never thought that people of Amethi and Rae Bareli would be left wanting for a rail line...What couldn't be done in years, the BJP government has done in just one year," she said.

Gandhi had toured his parliamentary constituency on May 19, where he appealed to the NDA Government to work for the welfare of farmers, labourers and the poor. During his tour, Rahul accused the BJP government of taking revenge by calling off construction of the Amethi food park.

In her rally, which is part of the 200 such planned to mark one year of the Modi government, Irani said the Congress was worried because she has taken Amethi to be her family.

"People in Amethi had questioned whether the PM, Smriti Irani will remember them? We have addressed their concerns."
