What compelled Arjun to help Anderson

Prabhat Jha asked Arjun Singh to explain why Anderson was allowed to leave the country.

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh BJP President Prabhat Jha in a letter to senior Congress leader Arjun Singh asked him to explain the circumstances in which Warren Anderson the main accused in the Bhopal Gas disaster case was allowed to leave the country.

Jha in his communique said, Singh who was then Chief Minister of the state must reveal what compelled him to help in the fleeing of 89-year-old Anderson, the then Chairman of Union Carbide Corporation of USA, who lives in the United States, who was guilty in the death of thousands of people in the 1984 gas tragedy.

"Not only the media, but the whole country wants to know the facts," the State BJP President said.

He said Singh must point out if the charges levelled against him were baseless or tell the facts in the case.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohan P Tiwari on June 7 convicted the former Union Carbide (India) Chairman Keshub Mahindra and six others and gave them punishment under less stringent provisions of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence.
