A copy of the A-G's resignation was sent to the chief minister and it was accepted, Bhattacharya told reporters in the state secretariat here.
Asked for the reason of Mitra's resignation, he said the state government was not aware of it.
Bhattacharya also replied in the negative when asked if there was any complaint that Mitra was not provided with proper evidences and documents in major legal cases he was dealing with.
There was no complaint of non-cooperation with Mitra by any state government department, the minister said, adding that the state government had no problem with him.
A copy of his resignation was also sent to Governor MK Narayanan.
