KOLKATA: The West Bengal Pollution Control Board is monitoring water and air pollution from 44 large - scale industries which have been identified as grossly polluting.

"We have identified them and warned them to be compliant after which action could be taken against them as per the law," Kalyan Rudra, WBPCB chairman, told PTI.

He said they have established a monitoring mechanism for measuring emission, liquid and solid waste disposal for the industries.

"We have recently installed electronic scanners at the discharge point. The data is fed into an online monitoring system which can be seen by both the state pollution control board as well the central board," Rudra said.

The list of 44 most polluting industries include those from the leather industry, iron and steel, paper and jute.

Besides the large-scale ones, a list of 550 small and medium-scale polluting units have also been prepared by the pollution watchdog.
