West Bengal govt decides to take up programme to train youths from farming community
KOLKATA: West Bengal government has decided to take up a programme to train youths from farming community to ensure smooth supply of supply of fresh fruits and vegetables to Sufal Bangla outlets which have been launched by the state agricultural marketing department.

The youths are being trained in sorting, grading and preservation of their produce. They are also being trained in ways to supply the vegetables at the earliest keeping their freshness intact to the outlets of Sufal Bangla. The training is helping the youth to develop their skills in retail marketing, maintaining proper accounts and managing businesses.

The agri marketing department has also introduced the ‘Amar Fasal Amar Gari’ scheme for farmers, allowing a subsidy of Rs 10,000 to buy hand-pulled vans and poly-crates to take their agricultural produce, mainly vegetables, to markets.

The department has a target of setting up around 80 Sufal Bangla stores across the state by the end of March 2017 and steps have also been taken to introduce app-based online home delivery of vegetables and fruits.
