West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan to visit Presidency university today

The Governor, also the Chancellor, would visit the university in the afternoon, Raj Bhavan sources said.

KOLKATA: West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan would visit the Presidency University today, two days after it was ransacked and vandalised by a group carrying Trinamool Congress flags.

The Governor, also the Chancellor, would visit the university in the afternoon, Raj Bhavan sources said.

The Governor would visit the campus to meet the students, Prabir Dasgupta, Registrar of the university, said.

Strongly criticising the incident which took political overtones, Narayanan had yesterday said that those who ransacked the institution should be treated like criminals.

Vice Chancellor of the University Malabika Sarkar had said that those who vandalised various departments carried TMC flags.

TMC Secretary General and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee, however, said that those who were involved did not belong to the party.

The Registrar said that Vice Chancellor had immediately apprised the Governor of the incident before talking to the media.

The Registrar also took part in a protest march with students and alumni of the university yesterday.

The historic Presidency University was vandalised by miscreants who broke into the campus and ransacked the Baker laboratory and unleashed panic among students during selection tests on Wednesday forcing the authorities to close the institution for the day.
