KOLKATA: West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who also holds the charge in Bihar, postponed his return to the city on Wednesday after Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation as chief minister late in the evening.

According to top sources in Raj Bhavan and people close to the governor, Tripathi was requested to stay put in Patna for some days more.

A central minister told ET on Wednesday that the governor would be in Patna as there are possibilities of a floor test. "Nitish Kumar would again form the government. It is just a matter of time. Rest of the matter will unfold gradually," the minister said, pleading anonymity.

Meanwhile, the sudden development has brought reasons for Mamata Banerjee to worry about the political scenario in the eastern states. Banerjee, who is always prompt in re acting to any national development, refrained from saying anything till last reports came in.
