Kolkata: West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose will be visiting the Indo-Nepal bordering areas of West Bengal’s Panitanki on Wednesday, as part of his visit to North Bengal. Meanwhile, the Indo-Nepal border in North Bengal’s Panitanki is being guarded by SSB in close coordination with state police. Strict vigil is being kept on the bridge which connects Nepal and West Bengal’s Panitanki.

“This visit is one of my routine visits to the bordering areas of North Bengal and part of my North Bengal tour. I will assess the situation there and talk to people in the bordering areas,” Bose said today.

Some families are crossing the border and entering Bengal with families amid unrest in Nepal. “My house is in Nepal. Gen-Z group is setting ablaze government buildings to stop corruption. The commoners’ houses are not targeted. Protest and fire is everywhere. My family is in the bordering area, so I have entered India,” a Nepali citizen, entering India with his family. Told media.


Meanwhile, several hundreds of trucks, more than 500 trucks, carrying food and life-saving medicines, have got stranded in the Panitanki area of Siliguri, bordering Nepal from Monday as borders have been sealed.

Sajal Ghosh, General Secretary of Federation of West Bengal Truck Operators’s Association, told ET that more than 500 trucks are stranded in Panitanki area of Siliguri bordering Nepal from Monday as borders have been sealed. The trucks could not cross the border and off-load the goods.”

The trucks generally off-load the goods by entering Nepal from the bordering areas of Kakrajhora (Panitanki) area. “In the Panitanki area of Siliguri, trucks enter Nepal a few kilometres inside Nepal, off-load and return. With borders getting sealed, they are now standing in India making long queues as they cannot enter Nepal in the present situation,” Ghosh said.

A truck owner said, "There was firing in Nepal and we all have returned from the border leaving our trucks."

North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC), which runs buses twice a week to Kathmandu from Siliguri, has been stalled now.
