C. V. Ananda Bose, the Governor of West Bengal, has resigned from his post in New Delhi, a Lok Bhavan official said, as per PTI.

Bose submitted his resignation earlier in the day, the official added. Bose said he had decided to step down after spending considerable time in the role. “I have spent enough time at the Governor’s office,” he told Press Trust of India after resigning.

C. V. Ananda Bose has sent his resignation letter to the President of India, his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) confirmed, ANI reported.

He, however, did not disclose the grounds of his sudden resignation or clarify whether any political pressure had prompted his decision. No further details were immediately available on the circumstances leading to his move.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was “shocked and deeply concerned” over the sudden resignation of Governor C. V. Ananda Bose and alleged that he may have been subjected to pressure from the Union government ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections.

In a post on platform X, Banerjee said the reasons behind Bose’s resignation were not known to her. However, she added that given the prevailing circumstances, she would not be surprised if the Governor had been “subjected to some pressure” from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to serve certain political interests on the eve of the elections.

Appointment: Banerjee also said Shah informed her that Tamil Nadu governor R. N. Ravi was being appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal, but alleged that she was not consulted on the matter as per established convention.

“Such actions undermine the spirit of the Constitution of India and strike at the very foundation of our federal structure,” she said, adding that the Centre must respect the principles of cooperative federalism and refrain from taking unilateral decisions that erode democratic conventions and the dignity of states.
