KOLKATA: Remote islands in Bengal would no longer be deprived for prompt medical services with the West Bengal government’s plan to launch boat ambulances for patients.

The boat ambulances come complete with a GPS tracking mechanism and other emergency facilities for patients living mostly in the remote islands of Malda and South 24 Parganas. These would be including necessary medicines too for emergency treatments on the go.

This service that would be available for twelve hours in the day between 6am and 6pm in two blocks of the two districts initially post which it would be available through the day.
The Malda district administration and health department have already got the necessary orders to start the service at the earliest. The boat ambulance would be under the supervision of a health department employee.

These boat ambulances are all part of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s plan to focus on reviving the health infrastructure of the state where close to 40 multi-super specialty hospitals have already been planned across all the districts of the state.
