West Bengal Election Commission submits municipal bodies poll schedule
The Calcutta High Court during the hearing, on Thursday was informed by senior advocate Jayanta Mitra, who appeared for the SEC, that the other municipalities will go polls on February 27, 2022.

The State Election Commission (SEC) informed the court that the first phase of the remaining municipal polls would be held on January 22, 2022 and would include five municipal bodies of Howrah, Chandannagar, Bidhannagar Siliguri and Asansol.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj was hearing a petition moved by BJP leader Pratap Banerjee, which demanded all municipal polls in one single day.

Notably, the High Court was apprised that in the second phase of Municipal polls, polls will be conducted for the remaining 119 municipal bodies.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation election was conducted on December 19.
The KMC election on Sunday was marred by violence with all the opposition parties complaining about large scale violence on the poll day. The Opposition-BJP, Congress and CPI-M-complained that polling agents were driven out of the booths, booths were captured and rigged allegedly by the Trinamool Congress and candidates were beaten up. Crude bombs were hurled in two places, leaving three injured. The BJP and CPI-M have moved the Calcutta High Court on the issue.
