West Bengal CM promises strictest action against those responsible for Murshidabad train accident
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said "strictest possible action" will be taken against those responsible for the death of three people, including two school students, after a train rammed a pool car at an open level crossing in Murshidabad district.

Asserting that negligence in duty would not be tolerated, Adhikari said he has directed the administration to provide all possible assistance to the injured and the affected families.

He said state minister Gouri Sankar Ghosh visited the hospital where the injured were being treated and was monitoring the situation.

A passenger train rammed a pool car at an open level crossing near the Karna Subarna station under Eastern Railway's Azimganj-Katwa section in Murshidabad district on Friday morning, killing two school students and a bicycle rider, while injuring five people.

Expressing grief over the incident, the chief minister took to X to say, "Negligence will not be tolerated. A thorough investigation into the circumstances of this incident will be conducted, and I assure the people of West Bengal that the strictest possible action will be taken against those found responsible."

He pointed out that the state police has arrested the railway gateman.

The Murshidabad district magistrate and superintendent of police are at the site since morning and are supervising the operations, Adhikari said.

"My heart goes out to the families, especially the parents of the young students who lost their lives. There are no words to ease such profound pain and the entire state stands with the bereaved families during this dark hour," Adhikari wrote on X.

"We are ensuring that the best medical care is provided to those undergoing treatment," he said, adding that state Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee was ensuring that the injured receive the best possible treatment at Baharampur Medical College and Hospital.
