Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee vowed to provide land deeds ("Patta") to the tea garden workers in North Bengal, a step ahead of the Lok Sabha 2024 polls. Kicking off her North Bengal tour on Thursday, Banerjee today went to a garden in Kurseong and plucked leaves with tea garden labourers, wearing traditional dress and even dance with their music, accompanied by them.

Claiming that West Bengal Chief Minister is "misleading the tea-garden workers with false promises about land deeds", BJP Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari announced that the party leadership will hold a protest meeting on December 12 in North Bengal, especially with the tribal and hill MLAs including Manoj Tigga, Niraz Zimba, Bishnu Sharma, Shankar Ghosh and other MLAs from North Bengal.

“We have not received permission for field. So, we plan to do a closed door symposium where representatives tribal, Rajbonshi, Matua and all other communities will speak. Our respected Tigga is also from a tea garden,” Adhikari said.

Adhikari said on Thursday that earlier housing schemes "Cha Sundari" were offered to the tea garden workers but no one accepted the projects. "Now the promise of offering land deeds is being made. For Mamata Banerjee, hills are only tourism destination and she is not interested in any developmental work for the people."

"She is there in the hills to attend a wedding of her family member at government expenses," Adhikari alleged.
Meanwhile, Banerjee started her North Bengal tour today by plucking tea leaves at a garden in North Bengal's Kurseong today. Banerjee has several rallies in North Bengal in the next few days and she will also attend a family wedding in Kurseong.
